Resort will keep camp open through July

Standing atop 50 or more feet of snow in late June, snowboarders and skiers snapped into bindings, adjusted their helmets, shook their wrists and prepared to slide down the hill on Loverly trail at Copper Mountain to give their new trick a shot.
This year, the third year of summer camps at Woodward at Copper, the program benefits from more than 380 inches of snow that fell this winter. Jason George's park and pipe crew has maneuvered what's left into a variety of on-snow opportunities for campers. That includes a few extra jumps on the condensed Catalyst Terrain Park as well as the new Playground, where campers can hike to throw tricks during their free time.
“(George) brings a wealth of skills and knowledge to the table so we're super excited to have him,” Copper spokesman David Roth said, adding that George used to work for Keystone Resort before coming to head up the Copper team.
“There's so much snow this year, and we farmed it a little better,” Woodward at Copper director Ben Brown said, adding that he encouraged the creation of The Playground as a way to use the leftover snow.
“We had so much snow — why not use it?” he said.
