New lifts coming to Copper, Loveland

alt

Copper Mountain's High Point Chair no longer exists.

At least, until the new Dopplemayr high-speed quad gets installed.

Copper spokesman David Roth said the old lift has been sold and shipped off to Washington, where 49° North Mountain Resort is making use of it.

Concrete foundations are being poured as snow conditions permit, and work is under way on upper and lower terminals.

The new lift is meant to improve circulation in the Union Creek area - for beginners and those making laps at the Catalyst Terrain Park.

Also in the works:  Dealing for a contract for a speed training facility for the U.S. Ski Team.  If that gets on OK, Copper would install a fully-automated snowmaking system on the east side of the mountain along trails under the Super Bee lift.

Roth said the mountain development plan calls for a possible lift up Tucker Mountain, guided skiing on the other side of Tucker Mountain, new snowmaking and trails and dining facilities.
