The rangers up at Florissant Fossil Beds National Monument are looking for volunteers to work Friday on trails and in the picnic area.
The Fossil Beds won a grant from Energizer and a donation of solar power sources and lights. (Click here to learn more about Energizer's parks program.)
Work on Friday includes leveling of tables and grill areas and installation of a timber perimeter and gravel surface as well as working on trails and stabilizing the creek bed.
Volunteer are needed 9 a.m. to noon at Florissant Fossil Beds, 15807 Teller County Road 1 in Florissant.
Watch for the Energizer Bunny Hot Hare balloon to fly in the skies Thursday morning. The balloon is set to launch at 6 a.m. near Powers and Fountain boulevards in Colorado Springs.
Florissant has one the richest and most diverse fossil deposits in the world. It is full of petrified redwood stumps and thousands of detailed fossils of plants and insects that reveal the stories of prehistoric Colorado.
