The USA Pro Cycling Challenge in August will feature some of the world's best road cyclists climbing mountains throughout the state. You may not be ready to ride the Queen's Stage, which features two 12,000-foot passes in one day, but you can start by pedaling one foot in front of the other.
Many people trade their bicycle in for a driver's license as a teen, but many are now drawing back toward the two-wheeler.
"Taking the first step into the unknown of riding down the road and out of your comfort zone is a hurdle for many beginners," said Joel Charles, who raced for the Rio Grande and Sports Garage team out of Boulder throughout the mid-2000s. "Starting on bike paths where other cyclists are present or joining a local group ride will help to build the confidence needed to travel out solo."
