The top professional wakeboarders from throughout the globe are set to make a splash in Colorado Springs, Colo., on June 10-11, for the third stop of the 2011 MasterCraft Pro Wakeboard Tour, presented by Rockstar Energy Drink. All the high-flying, rail-sliding water-sports action will take place on Prospect Lake at Memorial Park, where the sport's top pros will compete for a cash purse and points toward the season standings for the coveted Pro Tour title.
Throughout the two-day event, riders will compete in a series of elimination rounds by performing rail tricks and aerial stunts, while being pulled on the water by the official Pro Tour towboat, the MasterCraft X-Star, at a speed of approximately 25mph. Tricks are scored by a panel of judges, with only the top-scoring athletes advancing in each round until a winner is determined in the finals, on Saturday, June 11.
Following the final rounds of action on Saturday, the Pro Tour will also host a Big-Air Kicker Contest, which is designed to feature select athletes performing exciting and innovative new tricks that aren’t normally attempted in a traditional contest setting.
The 2011 Colorado Springs tour stop will mark the Pro Tour's second consecutive appearance at Memorial Park.
Last year, the 2010 Colorado Springs event saw major upsets in both the Pro Men's and Jr. Pro Men's divisions that led to Bob Soven's and Daniel Powers' first-ever Pro Tour stop wins.
The 2011 Colorado Springs tour stop promises to be even more exciting with the addition of the Pro Women's division. The sport's top female rippers have never before competed in Colorado Springs and plan to make a splash in their debut appearance.
In addition to all the action on the water; on land, fans will enjoy plenty of great food; athlete autograph signings; chances to win freebies; product sampling, and shopping at the most cutting-edge stores for water-sports equipment including boats, wakeboards, wakeskates, sunglasses and the latest in wakeboarding and surfing fashions. At the Pro Tour's entertainment stage, guests can catch athlete interviews, color commentators and interactive live music.
Friday's preliminary rounds, which run from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., are free to the public to watch. Saturday, June 11 will remain a ticketed event, with action beginning at 10:30 a.m. and ending at 7 p.m.
Tickets are available at the gate: $13 (adult); $5 (ages 6-12); free (ages 5 and under); or $7 (adult) if purchased online.
