Climber injured in Boulder Canyon fall

A 22-year-old University of Colorado student was injured Thursday at about 5 p.m. when he fell while rock climbing at Practice Rock in Boulder Canyon.

Reid Pletcher suffered cuts on his back and head after falling about 30 feet, the Boulder County Sheriff's office said.

Pletcher fell when two anchors gave way from the rock face. The sheriff's office said Pletcher was not wearing a helmet.

Two other climbers helped Pletcher until a crew from the Nederland Fire Department, Pridemark Paramedics and Rocky Mountain Rescue safely removed him from a rock ledge.

Pletcher was flown by helicopter to St. Anthony Central Hospital where he was described as "stable."
