Wow! 20 feet of snow on Trail Ridge Road

Crews trying to clear Trail Ridge Road in Rocky Mountain National Park by Memorial Day are plowing their way through more than 20 feet of snow at spots.

Park officials said Tuesday that plow operators are dealing with some of the deepest snow seen along the route in years.

Officials at Rocky Mountain National Park say the road may open May 27.

Trail Ridge is billed as the country's highest continuously paved road. It climbs to 12,183 feet and connects the towns of Estes Park on the east side of the park with Grand Lake on the west.

Wednesday night's storm is expected to bring rain to the Front Range and snow to the high country -- including Teller County and Pikes Peak.
