Loveland closes season with a bluebird day

The slopes were dotted with bikinis and bright colors as folks barbecued down below.

Hawaiian shirts, flowered skis, tees, tunes and vests all accented the scene. There were even rumors of grilled T-bone steaks and their associated feasts.

It was a party at Loveland Ski Area on Sunday, closing day, as temperatures crept to the mid-50s, snow turned to spring corn and then slightly slushy, and Tommyknocker beer began flowing as the Arnie J Green Band began to play. For Alex Kovacs' group of friends and family from the Front Range, the last day at Loveland was just one of a long list of closing day parties they make a point to attend. Steamboat, Copper, Keystone, Winter Park, Aspen Highlands — they're all on the list, with the Highlands the forerunner in terms of party atmosphere. “We look for the best parties,” Kovacs said, adding that they make a point to hit Loveland, mostly because it's the “anti-Vail,” with guests of a more local flavor than those at the big resorts.
