State wildlife officials Friday announced a $2,000 reward for anyone who can lead them to a poacher who killed a pronghorn buck near Peyton last week and left its body to rot after removing the horns.

The slain pronhorn was discovered April 18 in a field about 150 feet off Sweet Road just east of Peyton Highway.

The buck was probably shot during the weekend of April 15, officials said.

The landowner has made a $1,000 donation to the Division of Wildlife’s Operation Game Thief program in hopes that someone will come forward.

Anyone who saw any suspicious activity along Sweet Road is asked to contact DOW District Wildlife Manager Jeromy Huntington at 719-439-9638, the Colorado Springs DOW office at 719- 227-5200, or Operation Game Thief at 1-877-265-6648.  Verizon cell phone users can dial #OGT, or contact Operation Game Thief via e-mail at This email address is being protected from spambots.
