Lawmakers agree on daily exercise for students

Colorado lawmakers have reached agreement on a proposal to require daily exercise in elementary schools, according to the Associated Press.

House and Senate members agreed early Tuesday to a version of a bill requiring 30 minutes of daily exercise to help address childhood obesity.

House Bill 1069 directs school districts to make sure students are getting exercise, whether it's during recess, physical education classes or field trips.

The full House and Senate still must take formal votes on the agreement. Then it heads to Gov. John Hickenlooper, who has 10 days to sign or veto it.

The agreement removes language from the Senate version about hyperactive boys.  It said that requiring more physical activity might prevent them from being wrongly diagnosed with attention deficit problems.
