Skier dies in Steamboat Springs

STEAMBOAT SPRINGS — A 19-year-old man died while skiing at the Howelsen Hill Ski Area on Thursday.

Steamboat Springs Police Department Sgt. Sam Silva said the teen, whose name has not been released, was found by Howelsen Hill Ski Patrol on Thursday night. The teen’s mom had reported her son missing earlier in the evening, Silva said.

The cause of death has not been determined, Routt County Coroner Rob Ryg said late Thursday night. An autopsy is planned.

Silva said it doesn’t appear that the death was the result of a collision with another skier or snowboarder.
