Multiple accidents have closed Vail Pass on Interstate 70 in both directions this afternoon as cloudy weather begins to roll toward the Front Range and rain and snow showers hits the mountains. Westbound I-70 closed at 2:40 p.m. because of numerous accidents and snow. It was still blocked at 3:45 p.m. and CDOT gave no estimated time of reopening. Eastbound I-70 was blocked at the Eisenhower Tunnel at 3:45 p.m. as well because of a jackknifed semi-trailer truck and snow. CDOT is reporting Eastbound AND Westbound I70 closed at Vail Pass at 6:30 p.m. Thursday. Scattered rain and snow showers along the Front Range could continue tonight and into Friday, but less than an inch of new snow, if any, is expected, according to the National Weather Service. A winter weather advisory has been posted for areas above 9,000 feet through 6 p.m. Friday, the weather service said. If you're headed the back way, beware CDOT is reporting wet roads between Fairplay and Frisco.
