Skier rescued from avalanche on Monarch Pass

Two witnesses and two CDOT workers dug a skier out of the snow after he was trapped in a snow slide just west of the Monarch Pass summit on Sunday, reported 9News.

The TV station reported the 52-year-old man from Salida was trapped at about 2 p.m. when skiing out of bounds.

Dustin and Joan Hapl and the CDOT workers dug the skier out. The CDOT workers were cleaning up a smaller slide.

The skier was not injured, 9News reported.

I wonder if he planned to ski there or was there because of the power outage at Monarch Mountain!  Power outage at Monarch kept frustrated skier...
