Cheyenne Mountain senior wins climbing state championship

Cheyenne Mountain's Tyler Youngwerth won the Colorado High School Climbing League State Championships this weekend at CityRock.
Youngwerth (4,442) outpaced Summer Igo (4,030) of Fruit Monument and Michele Espenlaub (3,887) of Pine Creek.
Greig Seitz (4,817) of Poudre won the boys' competition. Graham Espenlaub of Pine Creek was fourth with 4,452.

Jess Youngwerth, also of Cheyenne Mountain, was fourth in the girls' competition with 3,880. Quincy Koster (3,380), Sarah Vukelich (3,355), Regina Reyes-Zaragoza (3,240), Jenna Kaempfer (2,915) and Alison Bemis (2,805) of Fountain Valley School were 12th, 13th, 16th, 20th and 24th, respectively.
Shelby Johnson of Air Academy was 18th with 3,103, and Haley Smith (2,310) of District 20 was 33rd.
Among the boys, Palmer's Aidan Mike (4,270) was sixth, followed by area finishers Nic Rummel (3,990, 11th) of Colorado Springs Christian School, Johnathan Redmond (3,830, 20th), Matt Gilbert (3,805, 22nd), David Needell (3,795, 25th), Isaac Radner (3,720, 30th) and Jose Garcia (3,720, T-31st) of Fountain Valley School, Jacob McKean (3,560, 40th) of Liberty.
