Snowmass patroller seriously hurt after skiing into tree

A Snowmass ski patroller was seriously injured Sunday after hitting a tree during a routine end-of-day sweep of the lower Alpine Springs area.

Patroller Tim Brown suffered serious head and neck injuries in the collision, according to Aspen Skiing Co. spokesman Jeff Hanle. Brown was airlifted to a hospital in Denver on Sunday; Hanle could not elaborate Monday night on the extent of Brown's injuries nor his prognosis.

According to Skico COO Mike Kaplan, Brown is a third-year patroller at Snowmass.
