Audi reveals slick new carbon fiber ski

You might not think carmakers and skimakers would have much in common.

But according to a news release e-mailed today there are plenty of examples of such synergy:  Dynastar and Ferrari, Salomon and Saab, Zai and Bentley, Volant and Infiniti.

So I guess it shouldn't surprise us to see Audi jump into the fray.

Audi is working with Head to create a new carbon fiber ski.  The ski is coated in carbon fiber and has a wood core and layers of aluminum and titanium.

The prototype 170cm skis weigh 1,550 grams (about 3.4 pounds) -- about 200 grams (0.4 pounds) lighter than comparable model.
