Alpine stars set to shine at Aspen Mountain

Starting today, more than 100 of North America's top ski racers will descend on Aspen Mountain to take part in a week of racing on the famed “America's Downhill” World Cup course.

The week will culminate Wednesday, Feb. 16 with the United States Ski and Snowboard Association's National Championship downhill. The winner will be awarded the Roch Cup, one of the oldest championship trophies in U.S. alpine ski racing history.

Members of the U.S. Ski Team are expected to take part, including Steve Nyman, Travis Ganong, Julia Ford and Georgia Simmerling. Aspen Valley Ski and Snowboard Club alum Wiley Maple, who made his World Cup downhill debut in January at Wengen, Switzerland's famed Lauberhorn, is returning home to compete.
