ESTES PARK, Colo.- The recent snowfall is providing great conditions for the first Nordic Event in 2011   The Snow Mountain Ranch Classic will take place on Saturday, January 8, 2011  Early registration (until January 3) is $25 for adults, free for children.  After January 3, registration is $35 for adults, free for children.

 Racers can choose between a 15K or 7. 5K course.  For the children’s race, free rentals will be provided.  There will be between 150-200 racers of varying abilities.  Trails are groomed for classic technique.  For more information, call the Nordic Center at 888-573-9622.  Register online by clicking here: http://mad.sc/SMRClassic

  The Nordic Center, located near Winter Park at Snow Mountain Ranch, offers cross-country skiing and Nordic ski lessons, snowshoeing and guided hikes, ice skating, sledding and tubing, and sleigh rides to visitors. The Center has a full service ski shop and access to over 100 km of trails covering 5,200 acres of mountain meadows. Trail passes are free for YMCA members and guests, and available for $15/day to other visitors. Half-day, multi-day and season passes are also available. Lodging is available in cabins or lodge rooms with rates starting as low at $109.

 Fridays and Sundays from January 8^th-February 28^th special children’s programs are held for skiers of all abilities ages 5-15. During the programs children can participate in ski lessons, skiing games, and winter nature activities. Equipment and trail passes are provided.  Snow Mountain Ranch is one of two Centers operated by YMCA of the Rockies and annually sees more than 20,000 skiers. The property has a variety of accommodations from lodge rooms to yurts to large family-reunion style cabins. Indoor activities including an indoor pool and the Kiva recreational center are also available to guests.
