Northern New Mexico ski resort Taos Ski Valley has some big plans, including lift service to Kachina Peak (pictured above), the dominant terrain feature that skiers hike for an hour to reach for their powder turns.
Onthesnow.com reports on the proposed expansion at Taos here. It's a multifaceted, long-term plan, and the most dramatic element would be lift service to the top of Kachina Peak, providing easier access to more of the chutes and extreme terrain Taos is known for.
The longterm plan is under review by the U.S. Forest Service. Read the documents, if you so desire, here.
It must be good days for Taos. Up here in Colorado, we've seen few major terrain expansions in recent years, as resorts cut costs amidst somewhat flat skier visit numbers and a global recession.
