Skiers beware: U.S. Highway 24 closure Saturday in Woodland Park

If you're like me, you go to great pains to avoid ski traffic.

That means leaving early, eschewing the faster-moving and  straighter route to the slopes on Interstate 70 and making sure as heck I am not on Main Street in Breck at 4:30 p.m. on a Saturday.

This weekend, the city of Woodland Park plans to close U.S. Highway 24 so they can have their "Lighter Side of Christmas Parade." According to a story on the main Gazette site, that means inconveniencing 3,000 motorists so 1,000 people can line the chilly streets for the parade.

“They need to stop and come and watch the parade and enjoy the fun," a parade organizer said of inconvenienced drivers.

Well, speaking for this driver, after a hard day on the slopes, that's the last thing that sounds like fun, so I'll be making damn sure I pass through Woodland before they close the road at 5:50 p.m. It will reopen at 7.
