A-Basin finishes close second in race to open

Arapahoe Basin opened Monday with 6 inches of fresh snow.

Hundreds of people showed up to start their ski season at A-Basin with a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new Black Mountain Express high-speed quad chairlift.

Alan Henceroth, A-Basin’s general manager, cut the ribbon at 9 a.m. and opened the ski area to the public. Black Mountain Express will service the intermediate High Noon run until additional terrain opens. Three features are also available in the terrain park.

Skiing and riding will continue to take place at A-Basin through early June.
