The ElliptiGO has landed

Is it a bike or an elliptical? Well who says it can't be both. Th ElliptiGO, created by a couple of guys in San Diego, lets you ride your elliptical to work or wherever, the up-down motions moving the tires. Though from the looks of it, it wouldn't be too suitable for the trail. The first bikes rolled out of production in February of this year, and at least one has been spotted cruising the streets of Colorado Springs. Like all new things, they're steep, $2200 apiece plus shipping if you can't get to San Diego to pick it up, and there's a waiting list. While not available in stores outside of California, Spokane or New York City, the company says on its website it is looking to break into the Colorado market, and is pursing sales reps in Colorado Springs, Denver and Boulder. Triathlete Magazine (which I can say in all honesty I will probably never write for....) noted the high price tag but said it's a great workout for someone with an injury that prevents running but doesn't want to just stare at the TV or the mirror while using an elliptical in a gym. "Because it is 10 times more enjoyable than plodding along on a regular elliptical trainer, one is motivated to push harder on the ElliptiGO, making it more intense than its indoor equivalent," the magazine said. "Also, while you can simulate hill climbing on an elliptical trainer, you can actually climb hills - at bike speeds almost - on an ElliptiGO."
