Breck is building 22-foot superpipe

Breck is adding a 22-foot superpipe to its Freeway Terrain Park for the 2010-11 season.

It's a step up to what's now considered the norm. In past, riders at Breck have ridden an 18-foot halfpipe.

“We are taking our time and doing it right,” Breck pipe builder Nick Simon stated in a resort press release. “The terrain park crew is excited to be able to boost the caliber of not only the halfpipe, but the entire terrain park and improve the experience for our guests and athletes.”

Simon, who has worked at Breckenridge Ski Resort  for 11 years, is considered one of the best pipe cutters in the world.

The new superpipe will be a star feature the Winter Dew Tour, Dec. 16-19. The tour is broadcast on NBC.

Breck is scheduled to open Nov. 12.
