Carmichael taking the reins in effort to bring pro cycling tour stop to Springs

The coach behind some of the country's more successful athletes has taken the helm in the effort to secure Colorado Springs as the starting point of the Quiznos Pro Challenge, a professional cycling stage race that will take place throughout the state for the first time in 2011.

Chris Carmichael will lead a Local Organizing Committee (LOC) to create a competitive proposal for consideration by the organizers of the race: Denver-based Quiznos and full-service sports management powerhouse, Medalist Sports, Inc. Carmichael is building a team of approximately 20 LOC members from a variety of southern Colorado organizations who will prepare and submit the proposal by Sept. 10. The proposal will outline the reasons Colorado Springs should be selected, possible race routes, how race operations will be organized, how local amenities -- such as hotels, restaurants, meeting facilities and transportation -- will be utilized; a marketing plan to promote the race and ancillary events, and financials.
