A Coloradan's take on Mount Rainier

I finally completed my ascent of Mount Rainier.  I had always wondered if it lived up to its reputation or if it was all just hype since it's the only 14er in the state of Washington.  I can tell you now it's not hype nor can it even really be called a 14er.  To group it with the Colorado 14ers is to do this mountain an injustice.  This mountain is not for the uninitiated climber.  50% of those attempting this mountain fail.  Rainier is a mountaineering mountain, not a hike or climb.  I prepared for it like no other mountain and in the end my preparations turned out to be barely enough.
