CrossFit is as controversial as it gets when it comes to fitness. Challenging the "Big-Box Gym" mentality, CrossFit utilizes free weights, kettlebells, medicine balls, gymnastics and Olympic lifts to get members in shape.
Newly opened CrossFit Soco is not your average gym. In fact, from its gym size to its customer base, there’s nothing average about it. As a Crossfit affiliate, CrossFit Soco promotes overall fitness with workouts that boost athleticism by increasing endurance, stamina, strength, flexibility, power, speed, coordination, agility, balance and accuracy. Along with gymnastics and Olympic lifts, CrossFit blends running, pulling, pushing and swinging weight to create a workout regime that continually challenges its members.

CrossFit members perform a timed Workout of the Day, competing against fellow CrossFitters for the best time while attempting to break personal records. Typical workouts average 15 to 20 minutes of nonstop movement.

“It seems to attract people who aren't happy with the mentality of big box gyms,” CrossFit Soco owner Kevin Montford said. “If you're afraid of sweating, then Crossfit isn't for you. You have to come ready to push yourself every day, and it is very addictive. People who stick with it generally make it a lifestyle. The first session is always free. It doesn’t require a certain level of fitness; it only requires commitment.”
