From 8am to 5pm you can see what Crossfit is all about by attending a competition with the top athletes from all over Colorado Springs
CrossFit is as controversial as it gets when it comes to fitness. Challenging the "Big-Box Gym" mentality, CrossFit uses free-weights, kettlebells, medicine balls, gymnastics, running and Olympic lifts to get members in shape.
Newly opened CrossFit Soco is not your average gym. In fact, from its gym size to its customer base to its workout length, there’s nothing average about it. As a Crossfit affiliate, CrossFit Soco promotes overall fitness with workouts that boost athleticism by increasing endurance, stamina, strength, flexibility, power, speed, coordination, agility, balance and accuracy. Along with gymnastics and Olympic lifts, CrossFit blends running, pulling, pushing and swinging weight to create a workout regime that continually challenges its members.
CrossFit members perform a timed Workout of the Day (WOD), competing against fellow CrossFitters for the best time while attempting to break their own personal records. Typical workouts average 15 to 20 minutes of nonstop movement.
Who does CrossFit target? “It seems to attract people who aren't happy with the mentality of big box gyms,” says Kevin Montford, owner. “If you're afraid of sweating, then Crossfit isn't for you. You have to come ready to push yourself every day, and it is very addictive. People who stick with it generally make it a lifestyle. The first session is always free. It doesn’t require a certain level of fitness, it only requires commitment.”
CrossFit Soco will hold a competition in the parking lot behind McCabe’s and Southside Johnny’s on Tejon Street Saturday, August 14, 2010 at 8:00 am. Everyone is invited to attend and witness one of the toughest and most interesting competitions you’ve ever seen.
This is what you will see!
