The U.S. Forest Service released the Draft Environmental Impact Statement for the proposed Breckenridge Peak 6 project on Friday.

The process has lasted 2 years so far as forest service officials and resort owners have batted around their wants and needs.

The Draft EIS includes an option of keeping the status quo, and there are 2 other plans.

Alternative 2 is the forest service's preferred move.

It would develop about 550 acres of lift-served and hike-to skiing on Peak 6 within the existing Special Use Permit boundary for the Breckenridge Ski Resort.  It would include a new 6-person lift, a new ski patrol/warming hut, and a 150-seat restaurant at the lift mid-station.

You can see the entire document here.

The Draft EIS can be reviewed and downloaded at the Peak 6 Project Website.  There's a comment form directly on the website.

The Draft EIS is available for a 45-day public review and comment period.  Written comments should be submitted to:  Scott Fitzwilliams, Forest Supervisor, c/o Joe Foreman, White River National Forest, P.O. Box 948, Glenwood Springs, CO 81602; or fax: (970) 945-3266.

Hand-delivered comments may be submitted at the Forest Supervisor's Office or the Dillon Ranger District weekdays (excluding holidays) between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.

Electronic comments can also be submitted in a format such as an email message, plain text (.txt), rich text (.rtf), or Word (.doc) to:  This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .
