CALHAN - It's not often you drive east looking for a scenic hike. When you live in Colorado, why would you head away from the mountains? What could possibly catch your eye on the way to Kansas? Look no further than a picturesque spot tucked away in this small town for your answer. The Paint Mines is a dream destination for a geology buff. But the trail provided a pleasant surprise for those who attended the weekly OutThereColorado.com hike. Here is a photo gallery from the hike. The drive to Calhan isn't short, but the payoff is big in the form of a quiet, isolated trail and artistic rock outcroppings. Here are more details, including directions on how to get there. Join us at 9 a.m. next Thursday for a hike to Pulpit Rock in the Austin Bluffs Open Space. Click here for details. |
