1 climber rescued, search continues for another

A 27-year-old woman was rescued early Wednesday after being stranded for hours hanging from a cliff wall on Longs Peak Diamond in Rocky Mountain National Park.
Carolyn Davidson and her climbing partner were descending Tuesday afternoon when Davidson was stranded off the fixed rappel route, unable to go up or down, the National Park Service said.
Ranger rescuers reached Davidson about 12:15 a.m. They helped her climb to the summit by 3 a.m. A helicopter flew her out at 8 a.m.
Meanwhile, three park rangers who spent the night in a high-altitude hut at Grand Teton National Park planned to resume the search this morning for a climber who went over a cliff during a thunderstorm.
Rescue teams on Wednesday used helicopters to remove 16 injured climbers in three separate climbing parties from the exposed mountain after lightning struck the area. All the climbers suffered injuries related to lightning strike, including minor trauma and burns, a hospital spokeswoman said. The groups were all above 13,000 feet on the 13,770-foot Grand Teton mountain, said park spokeswoman Jackie Skaggs. A 17th climber went over a cliff. " His climbing party lost sight of him, which sounds quite serious. But his condition is unknown at this point," Skaggs said late Wednesday evening. "It's vertical terrain. It's possible that he fell some distance," Skaggs told The Associated Press in this story.
10 'climbers' rescued in Garden of the Gods

I hesitate even to use the word "climbers," because in the Garden you're only a "climber" if you have technical gear and a permit. Otherwise you're a clueless tourist...
(AP) — Ten climbers were removed from rocks after violating rules at Garden of the Gods Park in Colorado Springs.
The Colorado Springs Fire Department was alerted to the climbers by concerned onlookers on Thursday. The climbers refused to come down and they were removed by a rescue team.
Climbing is prohibited in the park without proper equipment and a signed release, and the climbers could face up to a $500 fine.
2 men rescued from atop Kissing Camels

Two men were rescued by Colorado Springs firefighters after climbing 300 feet to the top of the Kissing Camels formation in the Garden of the Gods.
The men, whose names were not released, were each issued $150 tickets for climbing without any ropes or harnesses - which are required, said Sunny Smaldino, Colorado Springs Fire Department spokeswoman.
Ten firefighters were called to Garden of the Gods at about 1:45 p.m. and, upon arriving, saw two men atop the Kissing Camels formation without any gear.
It took crews about 40 minutes to get the men down safely. The men were not injured, Smaldino said.

2 men injured in falls from Flatirons

The Boulder County Sheriff's Office and Rocky Mountain Rescue worked into the evening to rescue two men who fell on the first Flatiron in separate incidents Sunday afternoon.
A 64-year-old man fell into a ravine at about 3 p.m., according to Boulder County Sgt. Lance Enholm.
A 24-year-old man fell about 45 minutes later.
Officials didn't believe either man was injured seriously enough to require a medical flight.
