Grab your hiking boots and hit the trail!

OutThereColorado.com is eager to embark on its weekly hike -- only this week the hike will be on Friday with a trip on Forest Trail 715. This Monument-area classic winds through a hidden clutch of meadows where Monument Creek gets its start.

The hike, which is approximately four miles and includes 700 feet of elevation gain, will begin at 8 a.m. Friday, July 15. More details and directions

The tentative plan for next week is to climb Almagre Mountain (pictured) from the west. Few places let hikers feel so remote on an alpine peak, yet are so close to town. The high, but gentle summit of Almagre can go unvisited for weeks at a time, but this hike, with great views and a beautiful reservoir at 11,900 feet, will keep you coming back.

This hike begins at high elevation and is 6.5 miles roundtrip. Please plan for a long trip, bring plenty of water and know your limitations. More details and directions

Because of a lengthy drive on Old Stage Road, we will plan to carpool from southwest Colorado Springs at 7 a.m. Friday, July 22. If you are interested in attending this hike, please email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .
