DIVIDE – Experiencing cabin fever? Feeling cooped up and trapped indoors this winter? Experience winter’s shimmering moonlight in beautiful Mueller State Park. At 6:30 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 18, you can take part in a leisurely 2.5-mile hike through the closed campground and the Prospector Ridge Loop. On your return, warm up around a crackling campfire. Bring a thermos of hot chocolate or your favorite hot beverage. Should snow be lacking, boots, gators and YakTrax will do nicely. Grab the family dog, and the leash, and meet at the Campground Comfort Station parking lot next to campsite #12 to gear up. Dogs must be leashed at all times. Bring water, dog treats (winter workouts burn a lot of calories), a flashlight, gloves, hat and warm layers for the very cold temperatures. Consider buying your dog a set of dog booties to cover up paws. This will keep snow from freezing between their pads. Have a small mat for your dog to rest on while you take breaks. Howling at the moon is encouraged. Call the park to sign up: (719) 687-2366, ext. 0.
