Matt White, race director of Garmin-Cervelo, has been fired for referring a team cyclist to a doctor not approved by the team's medical staff, the parent company of the Boulder-based cycling team, Slipstream Sports, announced Sunday.
White referred Trent Lowe to Dr. Luis Garcia del Moral of the Sports Institute of Valencia, Spain. Garmin-Cervelo has weekly mandatory drug testing and all medical referrals must be first approved by the team's medical staff.
Garcia del Moral was the team doctor during five of Lance Armstrong's six Tour de France wins for the U.S. Postal Service. Armstrong is under a doping investigation in which Garcia del Moral has said he did not witness illegal actions while he supervised Armstrong's care.
