Denver police call attention to bike crash problem

Denver police are trying to raise awareness about the danger of collisions between bicyclists and drivers.

In all of 2010 in Denver there were 252 bike accidents involving motor vehicles, District 6 Commander Tony Lopez said today. From January through June this year there have been 135.

"In July we had two more. The trend is disturbing," Lopez said.

Only one of this year's accidents has been fatal, though eight involved serious injuries, said Lt. Robert Rock, of the Traffic Investigations Bureau.
