Authorities searching for hiker on Mount of the Holy Cross

VAIL - Colorado authorities are searching for a Chicago hiker who hasn’t been heard from for a week.

The Eagle County Sheriff’s Office says the search for James Nelson has resumed this morning.

The 31-year-old set out on a five-day hike of Mount of the Holy Cross near Vail on Oct. 3. His fiance reported him missing Friday evening and authorities launched a search on Saturday.

The mountain is one of the best known of Colorado’s peaks over 14,000 feet tall. Click here to see a photo gallery of the mountain.

James is an experienced hiker and is equipped with proper gear and supplies. But authorities say he isn’t carrying a cell phone.
